The 4:1 column is the manufacturer’s published Working Load Limit and is the rating of record — the figure marked on the product. The 5:1 column is calculated by SlingCenter as WLL × 4 ÷ 5, for comparison against components rated at the 5:1 commonly specified for wire rope and synthetic sling systems. It is always the lower of the two. We never restate a Working Load Limit upward. Pound figures are converted by SlingCenter from the manufacturer’s metric rating at 1 t = 2,204.62 lb and rounded down — a unit conversion only, not a change of rating. The metric figure is the rating of record. Lowercase t is the metric tonne (1,000 kg / 2,204.62 lb), the manufacturer’s own notation — not the US short ton. Size is the manufacturer’s nominal trade size and does not change between unit views — this part is ordered and stamped by that size in every market, and the manufacturer designates it in millimetres; the inch figure beside it is the equivalent.
The Green Pin® Sling Hook E EN 1677-2 is a Grade 8 eye sling hook made to the European standard for sling components, EN 1677-2, and to ASTM A952/A952M. Alloy steel, quenched and tempered, painted white, with a forged safety latch on a stainless steel spring and pin.
It is not only for chain
The size is designated by the chain diameter it suits — that is Van Beest's own column heading, “for chain diameter” — but the hook itself is used on three different terminations:
- Grade 8 chain — via a connecting link or an omega link.
- Webbing — via a web sling connector.
- Wire rope — via a thimble.
The flat on the eye is what makes the omega-link and thimble assemblies work. From 8.2 t upward the hook is supplied without the flat.
Ratings and certification
- Design factor 4:1 — minimum breaking load equals 4 × WLL.
- Available 1.12 t through 32.8 t, suiting 5/6 mm through 32 mm Grade 8 chain.
- Temperature range −40°C to +200°C (−40°F to +392°F).
- Certification: 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, MTCa, MPIb, DGUV.
- Standards: EN 1677-2 and ASTM A952/A952M.
The latch is operated by pushing it in, connecting the hook, and releasing — which is what makes it quick to use on repeat picks and discourages the habit of running a hook with the latch removed.

Inspection & Safety
Before every use: visual check for cracks, corrosion, distortion, wear, and illegible markings. Annually (minimum): documented periodic inspection by a trained inspector. Remove from service at first sign of damage. Never repair rigging hardware by welding, heating, or bending.
WARNING: Improper use of rigging can cause death or serious injury. Never exceed the rated Working Load Limit. Apply derating for side-loading, elevated temperature, or chemical exposure. Final application decisions must be made by a Qualified Person per OSHA 1926.32(m).
