Product Description
The DICA LiftGuard® Steel Coil Sling Protector (CENTER) is specifically designed for use INSIDE the bore or center of a steel coil during lifting operations. The horizontal surface is convex, conforming to the inside curvature of the coil bore for a secure fit and reliable sling protection at the center contact point.
OSHA & ASME Compliance
LiftGuard® Sling Protectors help ensure compliance with federal and industry standards:
- OSHA 1926.251(c)(9): "Slings shall be padded or protected from the sharp edges of their loads."
- ASME B30.9: "Slings in contact with edges, corners, or protrusions should be protected with a material of sufficient strength, thickness, and construction to prevent damage to the sling."
Key Features
- Convex Surface Design: The horizontal surface is convex, fitting the inside curvature of the coil bore — designed specifically for the CENTER/bore of the steel coil.
- Powerful Magnetic Attachment: 270 lbs of magnetic pull force with 3 magnets keeps the protector securely in place inside the bore.
- 20" Bore Diameter: Standard bore size; custom sizes available for different coil bore diameters.
- Non-Metallic Cast Nylon: Made from high-performance cast nylon that won't scratch or damage coil surfaces.
- Heat Stabilized: Allows for safe operations at higher temperatures.
- Recessed Magnets: All magnets are slightly recessed to prevent damage and ensure a connection without scratching the load surface.
- Patented Design: Made in the USA by DICA (Est. 1988).
TOP vs CENTER
This is the CENTER unit. Use the CENTER protector inside the bore of the coil where the sling passes through. For the top of the coil, use the TOP unit (sold separately) which features flat surfaces for the top contact point.
Ideal Applications
- Steel coil lifting at steel service centers
- Coil handling in automotive and manufacturing plants
- Anywhere slings pass through the bore of steel coils

Standards & Compliance
Every product we carry is individually marked with Working Load Limit (WLL), manufacturer traceability code, and country of origin. Inspection and mill certificates are available on request — email sales@slingcenter.com with your order number.
Governing Standards
- ASME B30.9 — slings (web, round, wire rope, chain) inspection and use
- ASME B30.26 — rigging hardware (shackles, eye bolts, links, turnbuckles)
- ASME B30.10 — hooks
- OSHA 1910.184 and 1926.251 — general industry and construction sling safety
- WSTDA WS-2 and RS-1 — web and round sling design
- 49 CFR 393.102 to 393.130 — DOT cargo tie-down
- NACM — welded steel chain grade specs
Inspection & Safety
Before every use: visual check for cracks, corrosion, distortion, wear, and illegible markings. Annually (minimum): documented periodic inspection by a trained inspector. Remove from service at first sign of damage. Never repair rigging hardware by welding, heating, or bending.
WARNING: Improper use of rigging can cause death or serious injury. Never exceed the rated Working Load Limit. Apply derating for side-loading, elevated temperature, or chemical exposure. Final application decisions must be made by a Qualified Person per OSHA 1926.32(m).
