Nylon Web Slings — Made in USA
Nylon flat web slings for buyers who require nylon material by specification, job site mandate, or personal preference. Every sling below is manufactured by Liftex® in the USA with Pro-Edge® protection and is available in nylon (ND suffix). Widths from 1" to 4", lengths from 3' to 30', in Eye & Eye, Twisted Eye, and Endless configurations.
Nylon or Polyester — What's the Difference?
Nylon and polyester web slings carry identical capacity ratings at the same width and ply count, and share the same temperature range (up to 180°F / 82°C continuous use). The real differences come down to stretch, chemical resistance, and cost.
| Property | Nylon (ND) | Polyester (PD) |
|---|---|---|
| Rated Capacity (WLL) | Same | Same |
| Max Temperature | 180°F (82°C) | 180°F (82°C) |
| Stretch / Elongation | 8–10% (higher) | 3–5% (lower) |
| Acid Resistance | Poor — weakened by acids | Excellent |
| Alkali Resistance | Excellent | Good |
| UV Resistance | Moderate | Superior |
| Water Absorption | Absorbs water (can lose 10–15% capacity when wet) | Does not absorb water |
| Visual Identifier | No blue line | Blue tracer line woven into webbing |
| Cost | Higher (nylon yarn costs have risen) | Lower |
How to Tell Nylon from Polyester
Every web sling has a permanently attached tag stating the material (ASME B30.9 / WSTDA-WS-1 requirement). Additionally, polyester slings have a blue identification line woven into the webbing — if you see the blue line, it's polyester. No blue line? Check the tag to confirm nylon.
When to Choose Nylon
Nylon's higher stretch acts as a shock absorber, making it the preferred choice when loads may shift or when dynamic loading is a concern. Nylon also resists alkalis and many solvents better than polyester. Some government contracts, military specifications, and company safety programs specifically require nylon slings.
When to Choose Polyester
Polyester is the better choice in acidic environments, outdoor/UV exposure, and wet conditions where water absorption could reduce capacity. Its lower stretch provides more precise load control. Most sling manufacturers — including Liftex — now default to polyester (PD suffix) because of rising nylon yarn costs and polyester's broader chemical compatibility.
SKU Decoder
All slings on this page use the ND suffix = Nylon. The polyester equivalent uses PD. Example: EE292X6ND = Eye & Eye, 2-ply, 2" width, 6' length, Nylon. The same sling in polyester would be EE292X6PD.
